Chip sealing is the most economical method of street resurfacing and is commonly used by municipalities throughout the Midwest. It is a surface treatment which consists of applying an asphalt binder, which is immediately covered with an aggregate and then compacted.
With over 35 years of experience, Fahrner Asphalt Sealers, LLC is a leading chip seal contractor throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and upper Michigan. Our pavement maintenance experts can greatly extend the life of your asphalt pavement, at a fraction of the cost, through our high quality chip seal application.
Chip sealing prevents the rapid deterioration of asphalt due to oxidation and traffic wear. It is comparable to other resurfacing methods in durability and effectiveness, but costs far less. Benefits include:
Gravel roads are also good candidates for chip seal. We use a combination of grading, watering and compacting the surface prior to installing a double seal. A double seal simply repeats the chip seal process using different application rates each time.
Black boiler slag is a by-product of coal power plants. We offer black slag as an alternative to aggregates in chip seal applications.
Slag retains its black color through the life of the seal. It has excellent skid resistance properties. Not only is slag aesthetically pleasing, but it also accelerates the melting of snow and ice due to it’s dark, rich color. Municipalities have noticed the black color absorbs heat and traffic can then help reseal minor cracks as they appear.
